Oil on canvas. 2018.
O Yemi : "Most of my recent paintings are about political and social issues around the world. My concern about these issues influences me to do most of my recent paintings.
Many aspiring performing artists across the world have moved to Hollywood with a dream to be superstars of the silver screen, but few ever walked on Hollywood red carpet without being scared about of the fame and fortune. This painting was inspired when recent victims of Hollywood sexual predators like Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Charles Rose, and many alike, started to speak out about their their ordeals.
One of the most famous victims of sexual abuse in Hollywood was Marilyn Monroe. She even referred to Hollywood as “an overcrowded brothel” :
'I met them all. Some were vicious and crooked. But … you saw Hollywood with their eyes - an overcrowded brothel, a merry-go-round with beds for horses.' - Marilyn Monroe
At the background of this painting, looking through the window, I painted the sunset at the back of the Hollywood landmark to depict the sunset of the careers and lives of many of victims of sexual abuse in Hollywood. The picture of Marilyn Monroe was included in this painting as one of the most notable victims of sexual abuse. In the foreground on the luxurious chaise lounge uses my symbols : rose and stems of thorns woven to a woman. The rose symbolises the glamour and fame of Hollywood actress and the thorns are the painful ordeals of the victims of sexual abuse."
